The newest trend in eating is a raw food only diet--- for starters ,how does it help?
Cooked food passes through the digestive tract more slowly than raw food & tends to ferment & may throw toxins back into the body. Where as raw food doesn’t produce these reaction, since it contains functional ‘live enzymes’.
Every food must be broken down by enzymes---exogenous(found in raw food) & endogenous(produced withinOur bodies)---to simpler building blocks. The more exogenous enzymes the body gets, the less it will have to borrow from other metabolic processes & the pancreas. when raw food is chewed, the enzymes present aid in its digestion.
We are born with a finite supply of endogenous enzymes, which should be enough to last us a lifetime, but if we don’t supply some exogenous enzymes through our diet, we stand to use up our original supplies & become susceptible to the signs of old age & premature death.
Several food theorists believe that essential nutrients are destroyed on cooking and hence food must be consumed in their form. They also claim that a diet comprising 75 percent or more of raw food will enhance overall wellbeing.
“Raw foods offer stamina, strength and longevity, Raw-foodism is often referred to as an anti-ageing diet as it’s high in antioxides, which flights free radicals, which are mainly responsible for ageing. It also helps detoxify one’s body and keeps it well hydrated. It’s also helpful in knocking off those extra kilos. “This has potential implications for bone health. Since low body weight increased risk body fat are associated with increased risk of osteoporosis.
NOTE- A raw food diet is not recommended for children, pregnant women, people suffering from osteoporosis & anemia. The long-term benefits of this diet may be questionable. Not everybody can tolerate raw foods since each one’s metabolism differs.
